NUBURU awarded SBIR Part II contract by U.S. Air Power to develop blue laser-based space printing additive manufacturing system

NUBURU, an trade chief in high-power and high-brightness blue lasers for 3D printing and industrial functions, has been awarded an AFWERX Small Enterprise Innovation Analysis (SBIR) Part II contract to develop a blue laser-based 3D printing answer with space printing know-how.

AFWERX is an innovation arm of the U.S Division of the Air Power that accelerates agile and reasonably priced functionality transitions by pairing progressive know-how builders with Airman and Guardian expertise.

The aim of the one-year mission is to exhibit improved velocity and accuracy of a metallic 3D printer based mostly on NUBURU’s blue laser know-how. The brand new class of 3D printers will intention to supply micron stage decision, elevated half dimension and metallic density, as much as 100x construct velocity, with minimal to zero post-processing and half shrinkage.

“We’re honoured to carry the ability of blue laser know-how and next-generation 3D printing capabilities to the USA army by means of this contract,” stated Mark Zediker, PhD, CEO and co-founder of NUBURU. “By combining the absorption benefits of blue lasers with space printing know-how, we intention to create bigger scale 3D printers that may provide as much as 100x the printing velocity of an infrared laser-based printer with full metallic density.”

Zediker continued: “If we’re profitable, this might enable the army to construct substitute components for older plane which have been obsoleted by the unique suppliers and may in any other case take months to obtain. This is able to drastically diminish the time required to construct and substitute vital elements and would enable plane to return to operational readiness extra shortly.”

“NUBURU has already pioneered metallic welding functions inside batteries, e-mobility and shopper electronics, and we’re excited to proceed increasing our capabilities into metallic 3D printing, all with the identical highly effective blue laser know-how,” stated Ron Nicol, Government Chairman of NUBURU. “This mission will assist to carry space printing, with its excessive throughput capabilities and price benefits, to key markets resembling aerospace, automotive and extra.”

AFWERX was established in 2017 and is the U.S. Air Power’s crew of innovators who encourage and facilitate connections throughout trade, academia and the army with the intention of making transformative alternatives and fostering a tradition of innovation.

The crew says its major mission is to resolve issues and improve the effectiveness of the service by enabling considerate, deliberate, ground-up innovation.
